I'm looking forward to coming down to the treasure hunt. Hopefully some kind soul will offer me a ride somewhere.


If me and whichever of my boys comes down can lend a hand with whatever then let us know. Should arrive sometime Friday evening.


Otherwise there's clearly no sensible hovercraft activity between now and then.

Don't worry Ed - you aren't the only non-competitive type around here - this is a cruising club after all 

The Treasure Hunt is great fun but I don't take the "hunt" part that seriously - it's a fun day out exploring and learning about a HUGE river estuary and (occasionally) picking up a clue here and there - all in the company of fellow hover-enthusiasts.

You are right, in that the Severn isn't really a good place to for a novice - it is an extremely dangerous place for the inexperienced (and sometimes also for the experienced  ).

Sorry, didn't mean to sound negative, your event sounds excellent and I shall endeavour to attend one day when I'm all set up, insured etc.

I don't do treasure hunts really. Not sure why 'clubs' like to do treasure hunts so much but there you go

The treasure hunt I ran last year enabled teams to cruise up the river Medway and identify places of interest and then visit them to find a bit of information. So rather than buzz along past places without knowing anything about them, this event enabled people to find out a lot about the river and its history.


A lot of us believe in objective cruising, i.e doing something, achieving something rather than just cruising along for the sake of it. A treasure hunt is a great way to enjoy a river and has the added competitive element that some people, especially ex-racers love.

Just trying to think what treasure hunts I've done in the past. Always road based of course, certainly with the bike (motor) clubs, the Bond Bug club, and more recently the ballooning club (as a guest).
 
Yes the hover hunt has more point to it, definitely.

Oh I can see the point of that all right. A good day out indeed. I won't be coming to this one as I'm not set up with insurance and a few other things yet, and it's a bit far too.
 
I'm definitely not a racer (though I compete in flying (paragliding and paramotor) events occasionally) but I'll be along to watch the worlds event at Towcester and look forward to a bit of river 'cruising' at some point.

I've never done any kind of treasure hunt before. The hoverclub hunt is just an excuse to spend the day zipping about with a purpose and getting covered in mud (out of the craft in my case). It's very enjoyable and you get to meet the club members and see different types of craft operating......just a good day out!!!!
 
 
Racing looks serious fun and if that's your thing as well you should go for it. I think it could get very addictive. Cruising for me is as much about seeing the coast and stopping for meal breaks, points of interest etc. My craft suits this well, the idea of buzzing around a beach does nothing for me and it p*ss*s people off. Horses for courses etc etc.

Ed, I think Gaz wanted you to have your own hunt for the treasure hunt, just to get you in the groove as it were  .

As you know, the Treasure Hunt is always in aid of a local charity.  This year, due a number of local cases of meningitis, we have decided  to make Meningitis UK the beneficiary.

I am trying to get my Dad to come for the 5th only, he says he has to help out at another event on the Saturday (Medical Standby).


I think any ride will be a good one. It will give me a chance to meat all of you and a great experience for myself and my Dad, he has only had a short ride in my, at the time badly performing 503.


I am sure it will be a blast, plus there are others who are also able to take passengers. 


Next year my craft should be there and running, so you all better win the event while you can.

on my first hunt the first clue was approx 500 yrds away and i ended up by the bridge.
on the second clue i lost the will to live and a search party was dispatched.
i did get a round of applause for taking the longest on a clue.
loved every minute.
so last will be a close fight between me and you brian
