General / Scottish Hoverin 2026
« Last post by John Robertson on Yesterday at 1:42 PM »
The 20th year of the famous Scottish Hoverin at the premier hovercrafting location in the UK (Loch Fyne).

All are welcome for any part or all of the event dates.

Event is mainly based around the Argyll Caravan Park near Inveraray which takes touring campers and caravans (no tents) and has static caravans for hire).  Plenty alternative accommodation is available in the local area (probably wise to book something if you are attending on the Bank Holiday weekend as it can be busy).  Launching/parking is available at the caravan park.  If you have any problems finding anything please contact me and I'll try to help.

For newbies, we normally use VHF channel 72 for inter-craft comms and WhatsApp for daily organisation stuff.  if you PM me with your mobile # I'll add you to our Loch Fyne WhatsApp group.  It would also be useful if you can indicate in the event comment what dates you plan to attend - no commitment required!

There is some useful info HERE on the area with some basic safety info (a bit dated but hopefully useful for "newbies" to this event).

I wouldn’t use Tricast again, it delaminates in time. PET is much better - after 12 years of hard life, my PET based hull has no delaminating at all. And much more forgiving in the event of ‘incidents’ because it has much better elongation before failure. 60kg/M^3 PET can be used for upper areas.

Anything above tricast  4 is ok for structural.  Tricast 6 is the strongest of the tricast range.  Tricast 4 is quite dusty.  None of the Tricast range bend very well.

Ive asked this before, but my memory is not what it was.
i need to purchase some foam core materials and cost seems to be high for the posh stuff.
PET 100, seems like the good stuff, and would consider making the floor out of this and some structural components.
is there a cheaper alternative for things like the seating, the craft i am making is going to have a center console, bit like a rib.
what density of tri cast is teh correct one to use? is it tri cast 6?
are there any cheaper alternatives?

General / Hover -in & possible Bristol Channel cruise
« Last post by rossfloyd on Nov 30, 2025, 7:58 pm »
Hover-in at the Helicopter Museum in Weston super Mare on Saturday 27th June 2026.

The event is free to enter and intended to be a relaxed social event with plenty of opportunity to operate your craft on the flat grass of the old Weston airfield and take part in a low speed untimed manoeuvring competition round the cones.  Aimed at being a fun day out with other enthusiasts and an opportunity to kick skirts and talk hovercraft.

The Helicopter museum are offering free entry for two people per craft and there is a café with facilities on site.  There is a campsite close to the Museum where you can make your own arrangements to stay overnight.  There are hotels and fast food outlets nearby.

We hope to involve the local BARB hovercraft rescue team and will also be inviting the Fire Service to display their craft together with the Coastguard and RNLI.

On Sunday we will try to arrange a cruise for a small number of craft but this is not guaranteed at this stage and will also be dependent on the weather.  This will be for suitably equipped craft and pilots with 4 st engines and acceptable noise levels.

All craft MUST be insured for public liability and will need to show their current cover note to the Museum staff before being permitted to operate.  This is a requirement of the Museum and there can be no exceptions.

With good weather it should be an interesting and fun weekend !
