Well June is over and so is my cycling challenge in aid of cancer research UK.  I managed to cycle 333 miles, which is the most I've ever done on a bicycle in a month.  I raised £695 via my cancer research giving page and £15 via a FB fund raising page, so I'm well chuffed.  I would like to thank everyone that donated to my page.

News on Becky, is that she has finally started her treatment.  She had her first infusion Tuesday last week (25/06/24) and has been in a lot of pain and feeling miserable since, but the pain is finally easing, so hopefully her next infusion in 3 weeks time wont affect her so badly.

I've still been out cycling every day that I'm not on shift.  It's times like these I wished I had invested in an electric bike :-)  Anyway I have gone through the mileage half way point, and currently sitting at 171 miles.  My left leg is giving me a bit of trouble, but not as bad as I expected.  To say I'm a wee bit saddle sore is an understatement, even though I've been using padded undies.  I have a few days rest now, as back on shift in the morning for a few days & nights.

I achieved my longest ride of the month today which was 25 miles, so gradually getting fitter.

Anyway you can keep an eye on my progress here:  Alan's Giving Page (cancerresearchuk.org)

Sorry to hear that Al. Give Becky our good wishes, it was great to meet her last year.
It seems to be the luck of the draw, or DNA in many cases. Some people do manage to carry on for many years, some get cured, and others aren't so fortunate.
There seems to be positive news stories about new treatments for various ailments quite regularly at the moment, so let's be hopeful that some new treatment might be available. There was a story on the news tonight about some super cancer drug that IS available in Scotland but not in England, so at least Becky is in the right place.

All the best wishes
Gavin and Daryl Lynn

There seems to be such an imbalance over how these things are "shared out".
Please say hi to Becky and Im sorry we didn't get to talk.
Thinking about you both.

That's what we're hoping for.  It's the not knowing how bad it is, is the worst thing so far.  Hopefully we will get her latest results and treatment plan this week.

Hi Al
It is devastating news ….but.
I have friend also called Al
Al is a retired builder, he is a tough person.
He was given the same news as you about his wife Celia.
Al came into the garage crying, which shocked me.
He told me Celia’s story, just the same as yours.
In his mind was mourning her loss.
She had lots of treatment…….lots.
This must be at least 15 yrs ago. Celia is still with us.
They are both now in their 80s
I hope you have the same result.

Oh Al. I am so very, very sorry to hear this. I have no adequate words for you both but you are very much in my thoughts now.
Of course I will donate on your Just Giving Page - good luck with the challenge but I know you will do it. Warmest wishes from Val and I.

Not an easy post to write, but time to make it common knowledge.  Becky and I popped down to Loch Fyne this weekend, but have had to come home earlier than expected, as Becky wasn't very well.

Anyway that's not what this post is about.  Becky has recently been diagnosed with secondary cancer, so is incurable.  Becky is still waiting on results, so at the moment we don't know how extensive the cancer is or if she has months or years ahead of her.  We also don't know what treatment plan they can offer her.  The not knowing is the worst part as we can't plan etc.

There isn't much I can do other than be there for Becky.  We've been together for 37 years, and we're still each others best friend as well as spouse.

In light of the bad situation, I have decided to cycle 300 miles in June in aid of Cancer Research UK.  It probably wont benefit Becky, but at least I will feel I am trying to make a difference and possibly help future generations.  300 miles in a month doesn't sound a lot, but when I have cycled less than 50 miles in the past 12 months and carrying a back & leg injury, and that my work roster means I only have 18 days in June to achieve the goal, it's going to be a tall order.

Anyway if anyone would like to donate to cancer research and encourage me in my quest I have attached a link to my giving page.
Please only donate if you want to and can afford to, as times are tough for most these days.
