you might as well have a boat on that river,

..... only until you reach the first rock weir when you won't be going any further  (about 3 miles is the limit for a boat - assuming you can avoid the many shallows & gravel bars).  Then there's the issue of launching - the boat ramp is only usable 2 hours either side of high tide - and wasn't usable at all that day due to the 8 knot river flow across the end  (I don't need the boat ramp - the dunes do the job for me  ).

... and I use far less fuel than a boat.  I did around 40 miles and used less than 10litres (average speed of 18-21mph.  I don't know of any 18ft motor boat that can do that).

I'm allowed on the river any time as it's tidal  - I choose not to use it when fisherman are active - it's not very enjoyable trying to avoid wading rod fishermen - for either party .  This is the closed season - for the next few weeks so they don't fish (for salmon) at all.

Craft isn't fuelled - I've found that you can buy petrol anywhere  so I don't see the point in carrying gallons of dodgy fuel around until I need it (pull up at filling station and add fuel directly into craft - no cans or messing around spilling fuel).  It's around 35 miles to the sea (takes just under an hour due to the B-class "A" roads)!

            Can one presume you are allowed out onto the river on Sundays AND some other non fishing days,  (26-12-13) as I thought you were limited to Sundays? Looked great tho,,,, You must have the beast ready fuelled and pointing out the drive to sneak in such quickies. How far is the river from you?

Managed a few hours cruising in the very short weather window today before the next storm arrived  .  Wind was pretty low and so was the temperature (3C).  Clear skies meant the low sun was a particular problem when travelling south and west.
