Solway

Would there be any interest in a meet at the Solway Firth.
At Garlieston there is a Caravan club site and places to stay.
It is also a long coast so other places may be possible.
The place that I launched this week has a camp site but the facilities are limited.
Itís only £10 per night though.
I was talking to the retired harbourmaster. He said he would give us a lift to launch at Garlieston.
Your thoughts would be interesting

Absolutely!

We've been talking about making the trip for a while now, a long weekend would be great. 👍

Nice idea and yes I'd be interested - although finding dates when I'm free would be my challenge...

Cheers

I'm pretty sure Danny nightingale will be arranging a cruise at solway at some point next year, he was doing some survey work up there earlier in the year.

Dave
Is Danny planning to launch from Silloth or the Scottish side.
Or is that not yet decided.
If heís doing one that would be great.

I'm not sure sorry, the parking around the silloth slip diddnt look big enough to cater for more than 3 or four craft with trailers etc.
Dave.

Hi guys, I live 1/2 a mile from Cumbria Dave, we often fly together in Morecambe Bay, so would be happy to bring my Marlin along, dates dependent of course.  Tony

I'd also be interested for  2-dayer this year (why wait?).

Other camp sites with/near launch:
https://www.verdantleisure.co.uk/queensberry-bay/
https://www.sandyhillsbaycaravanpark.co.uk/

... would need a recce though to make sure they launch was OK.

Also several casual launch sites - although with limited parking - i checked this one a few years back:

This was posted on the Club FB page:

Quote
Danny Boy Nightingale I ran out from the Scottish side earlier this year from near Annan. Used a slip owned by a very nice chap who also let us use his quad for getting trailers up and down as the slip is quite rocky. Also had a small field next to his house which may get a few campers and trailers on and he had contacts with the local coastguard who kindly pointed us in the direction of various pubs we could possibly aim for. Unfortunately my schedule for this year means it is a no from me, but hopefully next year when things calm down a tad I will look to organise something

Sandyhills is good to visit (I have stopped off there many times for an icecream!) but not feasible as a launch point.  This video (not mine!) illustrates both points.

I quite often launch from Kippford slipway, though manoeuvring a vehicle (let alone parking) anywhere near the top is a bit of a challenge, and it would probably only be possible to park 2-3 craft on the slip without blocking it for other users (not that boaties use it at low tide of course!).  It could be worth trying the sailing club (I have never asked).  They have a good wide assembly area and slipway.  See attached aerial view (again not mine).
Alas, I am probably not available over the next couple of months to join in, due to other commitments.
